Impressive Smart Scale with Accurate Metrics and Easy App Sync!
I’ve been using the Runstar Smart Scale for a few days now, and I’m seriously impressed! It’s more than just a weight scale—it gives detailed insights into your body composition like body fat %, BMI, muscle mass, and even heart rate. The 3.5″ color display is bright, easy to read, and adds a nice modern touch to my bathroom.Setup was a breeze. It synced seamlessly with the companion fitness app, and I love how I can track my trends over time. It connects to my phone via Bluetooth and uploads the data automatically—no need to manually enter anything. I’ve compared its readings to those from a professional scale at my gym, and they’re surprisingly close.I also appreciate that it’s FSA/HSA eligible, which helped me cover the cost. The good:Scale is very modern looking and high tech. The readability of the screen is clear and the scale has accuracy comparable to the scale in my doctor’s office. I found the scale to be functional and durable. The scale takes many measurements including Weight, BMI, Muscle Mass, Body Fat, Visceral Fat, Protein, and BMR. The measurements are helpful information giving insight into health. Scale comes with starter pack of batteriesThe not so good:The scale has a very small footprint which does not allow the user to stand naturally. I always feel off-balance, not steady when standing on the scale. My feet are too close together, because of the small footprint of the scale, when standing on the scale. If the scale had a wider footprint so that I could stand with my feet a few inches further apart, then I wouldn’t feel like I am wobbling or about to fall over when standing on the scale. The Starfit App is a deal breaker because of a security issue. When setting up my account I was allowed to enter a username and an 8 – 16 character password. There is also a radio button that allows the password to be remembered. I created a 16 character password and clicked the radio button to remember the password. I used the app several times without issue until one day the app froze open and drained the battery on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. I closed the app and rebooted my phone. I restarted the app and then clicked the eye to view my password. The 16 character password that I created was gone and replaced with a series of repeating letters WLWLWLWL. The app allowed me to log in with the WLWLWLWL password. Puzzled and alarmed, I contacted Amazon fearing that a perpetrator had access to my Starfit App, iPhone and information. GL, the Amazon representative referred me to the Buyer ECAC fraudulent department of Amazon. Buyer ECAC promptly checked my account and indicated that there was no fraudulent activity on my account. Yet concerned, I contacted RunStar and inquired about the password change. We emailed back and forth 4 times and I could never get a good answer for why the app changed my password. Sophie, from the RunStar Customer Support Team, service@runstar.com, said that the app changes the user password to WLWLWLWL gibberish to protect my privacy, but the app remembers my actual 16 character password. I have never had an app change my password unless I couldn’t remember my password and requested a password change. When I click the eye, I should see my own password not an app generated password. What’s the point of making a 16 character password if the app is going to change the password to something the app remembers? What happened to my 16 character password? There’s something not quite right with an app changing a user password unless the user requests a password change. There is nothing in the RunStar scale documentation indicating the Starfit App will change your password to its own password after you select the radio button to remember your password. I would not have purchased this scale if I was aware of this security issue.If you do purchase the scale, when setting up your account, create a secure password and don’t select the radio button to remember your password. Of course, that means whenever you want to use the app and scale, you will have to type in your secure password. Unfortunately, that’s the only way to keep the app from changing your password without your consent.Other notes:If you use an iPhone go to Settings, Apps, Starfit and make the following changes:Bluetooth – Enable to use scale then Disable after use. A lot of work, I know, but it is the only way to have some semblance of security. And, too much work, which is why I don’t recommend buying the scale.The Starfit App does not need access to function:Cellular Data – DisableApple Intelligence:Learn from this App – DisableShow on Home Screen – EnableSuggest App – DisableSuggest Notifications – DisableThat’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Never had a smart scale before, but I was really impressed with this one. It was super easy to connect to the app and has a lot of features. I’ve only had it for a couple weeks so not sure about how long it will last, but is seems to be built solid and I would buy it again.
