Best way to Preserve Deep Cycle Batteries
Not a battery expert!This is my second one. Bought the 022-0157-1 version in 2013. It died a couple of month ago. Rain and 100 degree days probably did it in. Like stuff to last forever but 7 hard years is OK. This model has replaced that one.I have used deep cycle batteries (lead acetate) for trolling motor for years. In the past used a fast charging battery charger. After switching to the Battery Tender noted my batteries would last longer (6 + years) as opposed to 2-3 with my fast charger. I think the slower rate of charge and keeping them “topped off” preserves the batteries. Also best not to discharge below 50% capacity.If a battery is really low it does not seem to work. I still have my old fast charger to get things started and then switch over to Battery Tender.

Great to have for equipment that does not see everyday use. The 24V trickle charger is good for a lot of heavy equipment or former military equipment that sits around and has several expensive batteries in them.The new style is somewhat smaller/sleeker than the old style but uses the same mounting pattern as the old ones which is nice. The charging indicator looks to be a bit more weatherproof than the older one that I have which is still going strong after ten years mounted on a generator trailer. Hopefully the new style is a continuation of the durability I expect of Deltran products.
